Relocation rentals involve driving cars or campervans from one branch to another. Rental companies need help to move their vehicles between branches and offer cheap prices for these types of hires. Overall, a relocation rental will save you money if you are looking for an inexpensive way to travel from one city to the next. But you do need to be flexible as you have to fit into the relocation locations and time frame.
Relocation rentals are great for travellers who are very flexible with their travel dates and locations. Remember that you only get a certain amount of time to complete the relocation, so you may not be able to take your time like on a normal hire. If you have specific destinations in mind and have to travel between certain dates, then you are best to look at a regular campervan hire or car rental. Drivers need to be at least 21 years old with a full driver's licence (held for at least 2 years). Each driver must present their licence at pick-up (photocopies are not accepted).
The rental companies need the vehicles by a certain time, so they offer a certain number of days to complete the relocation (e.g. between Sydney and Cairns, the allowance is 5 days. You can pay to take the vehicle for longer, but you still have to return the vehicle by the due date.
Relocation rentals are very cheap compared to normal campervan hire or car rental. The cheapest price is normally from $1.03 per day. But prices will vary depending on the urgency of the relocation and the branch locations involved. Some relocation hires also come with special offers, such as free fuel or travel allowances. The costs of a rental relocation may include:
- Daily rental cost
- Extra days
- Extra kilometres
- Security Bond
- Relocation Reduction Options (optional)
- Bedding
- Optional extras (e.g. table and chairs)
All taxes, one way fees and location surcharges are included.
With all relocation rentals, you are given a set number of free kilometres to complete the hire. For example, you are offered 2950km for the trip between Sydney and Cairns. If you travel on the main roads in a direct line, the kilometre allowances are normally enough to complete the journey. But if you do go over the allowance, additional kilometres are charged at $0.28.
All relocation vehicles are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned fuel. All other fuel is your own expense, unless the relocation involves a free fuel offer (e.g. your fuel receipts are reimbursed up to a certain amount).
Relocation hires are to be collected from the nominated branch. You need to make your own way to and from the branch (transfers are not included for relocation rentals). Relocation bookings can be collected from 8am and are to be returned by 3pm on the last day of rental.
The relocation list is updated daily. As new relocations are needed, they are added to the list. As relocation rentals are booked, they are taken off the list.
